What is improvisation?
  • The art of creating music spontaneously
  • A delightful discovery of new sounds
  • Adding passing and auxiliary notes
  • Theme and variations
  • using one note and experimenting by altering the
    rhythms
  • antiphonal clapping,singing,playing with your
    colleagues/students/family/friends
  • New melodies, harmonies and rhythms created by
    YOU!
  • Come on, take some risks, you CAN do it!!

  • Bach renowned as the greatest improviser on the
    organ in Europe.
  • Mozart

  • Chopin
  • Etc.etc,etc
  • These were according to our knowledge all solo
    improvisors, not group improvisors

  • If we know 10 then 90 we dont know!
  • We can come into a new way of thinking
  • We may feel fear initially but that will be

    out of ragtime)
  • Lets practice clicking on 2 4 with the hi-hat
  • place the one 1 inbetween
  • Swing and jazz is all about a flow
  • Later well have a blues/jazz jam with Studio
    session band
