What is the No Child Left Behind Act ?
  • The federal No Child Left Behind Act of
    2001 (NCLB), a major reform of the Elementary and
    Secondary Education Act (ESEA), was passed by
    Congress and signed into law by President Bush on
    January 8, 2002.
  • NCLB redefines the federal role in K-12
    education and seeks to help close the achievement
    gap between
  • disadvantaged,
  • Limited English,
  • special education, and
  • minority students.

Reversing Order of School Improvement Sanctions
  • Request
  • Virginia will allow schools the flexibility to
    reverse the order of sanctions in the first two
    years of school improvement.
  • Supplemental educational services may be offered
    to eligible students attending Title I schools in
    improvement in the first year.
  • Public school choice is offered in the second
    year.
