How they differ from fish
  • No bony structure
  • Cartilage is a tough fibrous substance
  • Not as hard as bone
  • No swim bladder
  • Fish have gas filled bladder which keeps them
    buoyant
  • Sharks use their giant liver to help with buoyancy

  • Sharks are carnivores..mostly
  • Some species are filter feeders who consume large
    quantities of small aquatic plants and animals
  • Diet ranges from fish, squid, sea lions other
    sharks to shellfish
  • Slower swimming less aggressive sharks such as
    the angel shark eat crabs and clams!

Shark attack!!
  • Sharks do not feed on humans
  • Only about 25 species are know to attack humans
  • Fewer than 100 shark attacks per year
  • More likely to die of bee stings or lightning!!
  • Bull shark is most frequent attacker of humans
  • Swim in shallow, populated waters
