  • Review the evidence base for new delivery models
    of care along maternity pathways including role
    of obstetric units, development of midwifery led
    services, antenatal and postnatal provision,
    exploring
  • the impact of workforce on provision of services
  • Provide support to commissioners to enable them
    to commission along clinically evidenced pathways
    of care. Establish the requirements and
    implications of commissioning the models of care,
    specifically
  • implications for workforce, training and
    education, including definitions for standards
    for practitioners and services, initiate work on
    a workforce model appropriate to the proposed
    model of care
  • Note full objectives linked to models of care

    understand the workforce implications of
    introducing new models of care

  • If midwife roles need to change in future models
    of care, what midwife competencies are required
    and how will this be met through education and
    training?
  • Should 98 hour obstetrician presence be mandatory
    across London? What would this mean to do so or
    not to?
  • How will local services cope without on-site
    paediatricians?
