19The Graduate Faculty Model InitiativeImplemented
Fall 2007
20Principles of the Graduate Faculty Initiative
- To position graduate education, particularly PhD
education, within the vision of One University in
Many Places. - 2. To develop a graduate education structure that
builds on ASUs expansive intellectual capital by
enhancing the capacity of faculty expertise from
across the university to participate in our PhD
programs. - 3. To foster interdisciplinary and
multidisciplinary perspectives, and facilitate
high quality research among our doctoral students
and faculty.
21Building a Graduate Faculty Model
- PhD graduate education is now organized around a
Graduate Faculty model. - With appropriate credentials, individual faculty
will become members of the university graduate
faculty and will organize themselves around PhD
program areas - Graduate Faculty in Psychology
- Graduate Faculty in Sustainability
- Graduate Faculty in.
- These graduate faculty groups will be more
expansive than departmental/school units. - An individual may be a member of multiple
graduate faculties simultaneously.

31Quality Considerations with Increased Growth
- Manage enrollment
- Continue to develop resources to support graduate
financial support - Continue to assess and improve graduate student
quality (e.g., selectivity and yield) - Continue to diversify our graduate student
population - Continue to work with academic units to
streamline their curricula
32Summary
- Build structures within graduate education that
facilitate institutional integration of President
Crows design imperatives - Facilitate development of interdisciplinary
initiatives new doctoral program structures,
certificates, concentrations - Focus heavily on learning outcomes in curricular
program design
