Extramural Loan Repayment Process

• Web-based electronic applications
• LRP database
• LRP Office examines for eligibility
• nature and amount of debt
• research activities
• necessary degrees
• Electronic applications referred to ICs for
  review
• External reviewers IC selects applications for
  funding
• Referred back to LRP Office
• Develop service contract with LRP awardee and
  repayment contract with loaning institution
• Loans repaid for up to 2 years or as long as
  awardee remains eligible

• Postdoc NRSA recipients incur a service
  obligation during the first year of support
• Pay back with a second year of NRSA support
• Problem for LRP recipient

  obligations simultaneously
