Are you anxious to take the National MFT Exam?
  • The NC MFT Licensure Board has procedures in
    place to help you qualify to take the exam before
    your degree is conferred.
  • Whats required?
  • Submitting an application along with a form
  • verifying you have completed the educational
  • requirements and registering for the exam.

Licensure (Flowchart)

A. Complete graduate coursework, submit
application found at www.nclmft.org . Follow
instructions. Submit by deadline dates on
calendar or application will not be considered
until next review date.
B. As part of the application, have your graduate
program director complete the verification of
degree and/or major and send directly to NC MFT
Board.
C. Arrange for a sealed college transcript to be
sent directly to the NC MFT Licensure Board.
D. Include supervision reports for pre-grad hours
with your application. Fee must be paid to
evaluate your application.
E. Must have an AAMFT Approved Supervisor
Agreement in place to be approved for Associate
(MFTA ) status once degree has been conferred.
F. Submit exam registration form last page of
application packet.
G. Once Board has approved, pending final proof
of degree conferment, you will receive a letter
from the Board declaring you are exam eligible.
Exam registration packet will be mailed to you
approximately 4 weeks before start of exam
testing period. Complete once received,
following instructions.

I. Once transcript received that shows your
degree has been conferred, you will be issued the
MFTA (associate) status. You will receive a
letter and certificate verifying this. You CANNOT
identify as an MFTA until this step has been
completed.
H. Receive exam date information from
Professional Exam Service
IMPORTANT!!! Once your degree is conferred, you
must arrange to have a certified, sealed
transcript sent directly to the NC MFT Licensure
Board.
