    advance planning of classroom activities

    of Teacher

    Room Parent
  • Role held by same people year after year
  • Develop a program that encourages participation
    and new leaders

2009-2010 Room Parent Assignment Process
  • In case someone asks
  • This year, Room Parents were selected by Patty.
  • Next year (hopefully) we will have the system in
place to gather the names of those interested in
being a Room Parent before the end of the school
year. Room Parents will be mapped by the Grade
Level Coordinators and Patty once the classroom
    assignments have been completed.

5
Room Parent Role
  • Two per classroom
  • Facilitate classroom parties
  • Coordinate classroom volunteers
  • Organize drivers for field trips
  • Help ensure strong communication between teacher
    and parents
  • Assist with classroom-related administrative
    tasks
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests
  • Manage teacher appreciation activities

6
Grade Level Coordinator Role
  • One per grade
  • Help assign and contact room parents for every
    class in your grade
  • Make sure room parents have information needed
    for BTSN
  • Act as liaison between room parents in your grade
and the DHSC, school administration, and others
    as needed
  • Maintain monthly contact with room parents in
    your grade
  • Organize one grade-level social function during
    the year
  • Organize one year-end grade-level event
  • Monitor workload of room parent teams
  • Encourage participation in Dixie programs

7
Breakout - Questions to Consider
  • Should one Room Parent acts as primary point of
contact for teacher or would the teacher like to
    talk/email both?
  • How will you manage the division of
    responsibilities?
  • Will one Room parent serves as primary liaison to
    parents, disseminating messages and information
    as needed?
  • Who (or both) will be the point of contact for
    your GLC?
  • Who will make sure ad hoc requests are delegated
    and fulfilled?

8

  • Tuesday - Flowers

guidelines for all California public schools
  • Up to the individual school districts how these
    guidelines are applied
  • Room parent implications
