Vision
  • Forum for confluence of Students, Academia and
    Industry
  • Projected to become the foremost event of its
    kind at the student level
  • Wide range of events including, workshops,
    case-study presentations, lectures and technical
    research paper presentations

3
Why Mindbend 2004?
  • Boundaries are mere perceptions to some extent
  • Creative thought vision sow the seed of
    progress but,
  • Mindbend will initiate and further this spirit in
the vibrant and dynamic student community
  • It endeavors to start a trend of student driven
technical research symposiums and cross barriers
of secluded research taking place in various
fields of engineering within Penn State

4
What is Mindbend 2004?
  • Discovery consists of what everyone has seen,
    but no one has thought.
  • Opportunity to present research work at
    university level
  • It will cater to the needs of the researcher in
need of exposure research discussions and
    presentation effectiveness

5
What do we plan to do at Mindbend 2004?
  • Address ongoing research through paper
presentations- will be expanded in years to
    follow
  • Organize guest/expert lectures that focus on
issues of relevance to the graduate researcher
  • EGSC believes that, All Work And No Play Makes
Jack a Dull Boy- Spring Social will be the
    felicitating grounds for successful participants
    at this event.

7
Whats inter-departmental about Mindbend 2004?
  • Weave together faculties from various departments
  • Each area of interest shown in the previous slide
will be handled by one graduate student and one
    faculty member
  • It is expected that they take charge of preparing
the selection lists, presentation schedule, and
    evaluation panels in respective areas

8
Whats inter-departmental about Mindbend 2004?
Continued..
  • Event organization will also be partially handled

  • Faculty/Grad Student will be chosen either by
nomination by the Head or voluntarily

9
How is Mindbend 2004 going to be funded?
  • EGSC seeks active financial support and mentoring
    from the OGSRO
  • Cost-sharing with individual departments
  • Other organizations like, NSBE, SHPE, SWE, ASCE,
IEGA, sponsor recognition awards and cash prizes
or otherwise participate in the event

10
What will the Participants take away from
Mindbend 2004?
  • Focus on recognition rather than cash awards
  • Visibility gained by the presenters that could
result in support for unsupported grad students
  • Sound basis for recruiting undergraduate students

12
What resources are required to organize Mindbend
2004?
  • But, above all-
  • The fire within to strive for collective
progress of the entire graduate student community
by assembling them to celebrate engineering
    research through Mindbend 2004

13
What do we seek from you?
  • Fraternal guidance
  • Mentorship
  • Whole-hearted support
  • Enriched expertise from organizing/attending a
blown up version of this event (national/internati
