SENATE BILL 81578th Legislature(TEC 28.002c
and 19 TAC 74, Subchapter A)
  • Fine Arts TEKS (and the TEKS in all other
    enrichment subjects) are required of school
    districts rather than guidelines.
  • All subject areas of the foundation and
    enrichment curriculum, including fine arts (art,
    music, and theatre) must be offered at all grade
    levels (K-5) of elementary school.

PROCLAMATION 2002
  • Proclamation 2002 includes the state adoption of
    instructional materials for all grade levels in
    music (band, orchestra, choir, and general
    music), art, dance, and theatre subject areas
    listed under the Fine Arts TEKS in addition to
    all subject areas and grade levels in languages
    other than English, health, and physical
    education.

    psychological and biological core, so close to
    this biological identity, that rather than think
    of arts courses as sort of whipped cream or
    luxury, they must become basic experiences in
    education.
