5
Background
  • Where do we start?

6
Survey the Faculty
  • How much time does teaching your online course
require per week? How long should it take?
  • How do you spend most of your time when you are
teaching an online course? How does this compare
with the time spent on various tasks for
    face-to-face courses?
  • How often should you check in on your online
    course?
  • How long should you take to respond to a student
    discussion post or e-mail?
  • Faculty presently teaching What surprised you
most about teaching your online course?

7
Present Scenarios for Discussion
  • You are receiving three or four e-mails a day
from students asking when a particular assignment
is due. You posted the information on the
Calendar tool, but students dont seem to be
finding the information. How do you correct the
    situation?
  • Several students in your class are shy about
asking questions in the Discussion area and are
sending their content-related questions to you
via your faculty e-mail account. Do you continue
to respond privately? If so, why? If not, what
    alternatives would you offer?
  • Youre making an effort to respond to every
message posted in the discussion area for your
course, but notice that student participation is
rather low. How do you address this problem?
