  • Industry
  • Research Institutes
  • Universities
  • Telecommunication companies.
  • ED Organisations

  • Technical Manager CERTH/HIT

3
The problem
  • European population is getting older (lower
    fertility longer life expectancy)
  • 20 of Europeans are unable to read? exclusion
from the use of transport facilities
  • ED are excluded from ICT technology services
such services are not designed for all
  • Inappropriate/complex UI
  • Jargon-inhibiting, and too-often irrelevant
    youth-market focused content

4
ED needs from assistive ICT services
  • Easily used one stop shop service and
information delivery sites, offering relevant and
integrated content as needed i.e. age-concerned
info on travel, accessible transport and
accommodation, events and sites of interest, and
"how to" advice on getting there.
  • Data delivery alternative methods that will adapt
the information context and the user interface to
    individual abilities, interest and preferences,
whether derived from the user profile or implied
    by the users habits.
  • Geo-referenced services, that allow the user to
    request info and services nearby.
  • Integrated general-market services, that enable
access to any information, with full choice, and
ability to purchase the relevant service in a
    convenient and worry-free way.

5
The aim of ASK-IT
  • ASK-IT aims at developing an extended ambient
intelligence space for the integration of
functions and services for elderly and disabled
people across various environments (car, bus,
airplane, home, work, leisure and sport).
  • ASK-IT focuses on geo-referenced and personalised
    transport and tourism services.
  • Emphasis is on seamless service provision,
independent on the media, user location (i.e.
indoors, outdoors, in a city, during a trip,
etc.), user type and residual abilities.

6
ASK-IT characteristics
  • Mediation of services and content.
  • Seamless environment management, everywhere,
anytime and by many mobile and/or fixed means.
  • User preference (i.e. restaurant, hotel
    preference, etc.) and context-related driven
    process (i.e. tourist, commuter, businessman,
    etc.).
  • Flexible geo-referenced services combining
    multimodal travel information .
  • User confidence service environment.

7
ASK-IT objectives (1)
  • Develop an open and modular service platform,
offering a transparent central point from which
to coordinate incoming end user data (user
request) and outgoing service provider data
    (provider response).
  • Connect the new services to emerging ITS
    applications.
  • Develop advanced key services, e.g. navigation,
    localisation, route guidance, e-commerce,
    e-payment, personal assistance, e-learning,
    e-working, social relations and community
    building services.

8
ASK-IT objectives (2)
  • Develop an iPDA, based on intelligent mobile
phones and PDAs, able to configure itself
according to the specific needs of the person.
  • Develop the appropriate connection of this device
to key assistive technologies (such as domotics,
    emergency management, driver support aids,
computer accessibility, etc.) and web services.

Future mobile phones of ASK-IT manufacturers to
be used as potential intelligent platforms.
