Project Objectives
  • The objective of this design project is the
    creation of a kit-ready modification to the pedal
    controls of the John Deere Gator Utility Vehicle
    in order to facilitate accessibility by those
    unable to perform current use

Project Parameters and Constraints
  • Task assigned by John Deere is the open-ended
    modification of their six wheeled Gator Utility
    Vehicle to facilitate handicapped accessibility
    (2,000 budget)

  • Project coordinated through John Deere in
    conjunction with UMass (wheelchair hoisting
    mechanism) and UIUC (sliding drivers seat)

    design and construction of prototype, with
    Industrial Design students aiding in overall
    ergonomics of new system, and some modeling help
    from students in AutoCAD class
