THE 2012 OLYMPIC GAMESBEACH VOLLEYBALL
QUALIFICATION SYSTEM
  • 24 men and 24 women vacancies for the Beach
    Volleyball tournaments at the LONDON 2012 Olympic
    Games (Grand total 24 teams per gender - 96
    athletes) will be assigned as follows
  • Through the FIVB World Tour ranking
  • 1st 16 teams / countries of the world ranking
  • Through the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup
  • The winners of each continental phase (5) if not
    qualified through the World Ranking.

  • COMPETITION FORMAT

COMPETITION FORMAT
  • Double Gender event are mandatory. However, the
    FIVB may consider to stage separately Men Women
    Competitions
  • 2 teams per country composed by two players each
  • Playing Country vs. Country, in best-of-five
    format, with the winner country continuing to the
    next round in the competition. Losing country is
    eliminated.
  • In case of tie, one match will be played by the
    team designated by each country.

COMPETITION FORMAT
  • Continental Phase
  • Sub-zone phase
  • The teams to play (per gender/country) will be
    designated by each Confederation. The number of
    teams/countries qualified for the next round must
    be defined according to the Competition System
    proposed by each Confederation and approved by
    the FIVB.
  • Zone phase
  • The teams per gender/country to be qualified will
    be designated by each Confederation. The number
    of teams/countries qualified for the next round
    must be defined according to the Competition
    System proposed by each Confederation and
    approved by the FIVB.
  • Continental final phase
  • To qualify 1 vacancy per Confederation. The
    winner will qualify for the Olympic Games. The
    best two teams/vacancies per gender not yet
    qualified will be taking part to the World Cup
    Olympic Qualification phase.

  • FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final Olympic
    Qualification phase
  • Played by the 2 best ranked teams per gender /
    country, that did not qualified from the
    Continental Final Phase. This phase will define
    the 2 teams per gender/country to qualify for the
    OG.
  • FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup Final
  • Will define the Beach Volleyball World Cup Winner.

  • Country vs. Country to be played in only one
    location or home and away  system
  • Each country will enter with 2 teams per gender
  • The number of teams/countries must be defined
    according to the Competition System proposed by
    the Confederation and approved by the FIVB. More
    than 1 country may qualify for the next Phase
  • Duration period according to the number of
    countries participating
  • The World/Continental Ranking and proximity may
    be used by each Confederation to select the

FINAL CONTINENTAL PHASE (from end AUG 2011 to
mid-JUNE 2012)
  • Country vs. Country to be played in only one
    location or home and away system
  • Winning countries of each Zone will enter in the
    competition at the Continental phase
  • Under this scheme, each Confederation can adapt
    the competition system and send to the FIVB a
    proposal format for its homologation.
  • Duration period according to the number of
    countries participating
  • It is compulsory to finish by mid-JUNE 2012
  • The World/Continental Ranking and/or proximity
    may be used by each Confederation to select the
    participating countries

FIVB BVB WORLD CUP FINAL OLYMPIC
QUALIFICATION(tentative date end JUNE 2012)
  • To qualify for the Olympic Games the best 2 teams
    / countries not yet qualified (either through the
    World Ranking or through the Continental Final
    Phase (1 or 2 teams per country)
  • 10 teams / countries taking part
  • The 10 teams / countries will play in 2 pools (A
    and B) of 5 pairs according to the round robin
    system.

FIVB BVB WORLD CUP FINAL OLYMPIC QUALIFICATION
(tentative date end JUNE 2012)
  • Its not possible to have two teams of the same
    Confederation in the same Pool. The best 2 teams
    of the 2 pools will play against each other as
    follows A1 vs B2 and A2 vs B1. The country of
    the winning teams of these matches will qualify
    directly for the Olympic Games.
  • Duration from 5 to 6 days according to the number
    of the courts
  • If the organizing country is not qualified to
    this phase, it will have the right to participate
    with 1 team per gender. In this case one pool
    will have 6 teams.

  • To establish the Men and Women winner/champion of
    the FIVB Beach Volleyball World Cup
  • Staged after the last Olympic qualifying
    tournament among the 5 countries winners of each
    Continental leg of the World Cup.
  • 2 teams per country, 10 teams in total
  • The 10 teams will play in 2 pools of 5 (A and B)
    according to the round robin system. The best 2
    teams of the 2 pools will play against each other
    as follows A1 vs B2 and A2 vs B1. The two
    winners of these matches will play against each
    in order to find the winner of the Continental
    Champions Cup
  • Duration from 5 to 6 days according to the number
    of courts

TIMELINES FOR APPLICATIONS

  • All NFs to send their application form (BVBWC_01)
    to organize
  • participate to their respective Confederation
  • By November 15th 2009
  • Confederation to make a proposal (through the
    BVBWC_02 form) to
  • the FIVB on format to compete in the various
    phases (date,locations, etc.) FIVB to give its
    feedback/approval.
  • By November 30th 2009 (TBD)
  • The FIVB to approve the format of each
    Confederation
  • Results to be updated upon conclusion of each
    match/event through the appropriate software
    provided by the FIVB
