2
What are SMART materials how smart are they???
SMART MATERIAL RESPONDING TO CHANGE IN
TEMPERATURE.
The MR fluid is liquid as shown on the left, when
no magenetic field is present, but turns solid
immediately after being placed in a magnetic
field on the right.
3
PIEZO ELECTRIC EFFECT
  • Mechanical stress Electric current

4
Smart Flap Control
SMART flaps responding to electrical signals.
5
  • Advantages
  • Weight reduction
  • Low cost
  • Low maintenance
  • Increased fuel efficiency
  • Does not require hydraulic systems
  • Bending to desired level

6
Changing Wing profile
  • Used during take off landing
  • Reduces the Weight, Drag and also the co2
    emissions.

7
Analysis using ANSYS

GINA-Geometry Shapes and functions in N
Adaptations
  • Light Visionary Model
  • Flexible Polyurethane coated spandex fabric body

9
SMART VORTEX GENERATOR
  • Mixes high energy air in the free stream with
the low energy air in the boundary layer
  • Prevents stalling by re-energising the boundary
    layer
  • Increases the streamwise momentum

10
  • OPERATION
  • The higher energy fluid is more resistant to
separation and allows higher performace of the
    aircraft
  • Vortex generators are simply small plates that
just jut above the wing surface
  • They look like tiny little wings jutting up
    perpendicular to the wing itself
  • As air moves past them vortices are created of
the tips of the generators just like trailing
vortices created by the wing to speed it up and
help reduce the possibility of separation

11
MORPH CONCEPT
  • Morph in greek means change in shape
  • But here we use this term for flexible
    electronics

A cell phone which is morphed into a wrist watch
