1
Anne Bradstreet Write down the line numbers and

blest his name that gave and took/ That laid my
    goods now in the dust.

Adieu, Adieu , alls vanity/ Then straight I gin
my heart to chide/ And did thy wealth on earth
    abide?

erect/Framed by that mighty architect/With glory
richly furnished/stands permanent though this be
    fled.

  • Line 1 If ever two were one, then surely we.
  • Lines 5-6 I prize thy love more than whole
mines of gold/Or all the riches that earth doth
    hold.

  • Even though she couldnt even stand to look at
the ruins of her home, AB still blessed God.
  • Line 35 AB gets upset that her things will
never be used again (in silence lie) but then she
reminds herself that spiritual wealth is better
    than earthly wealth.
  • AB uses a metaphor, saying her promised spiritual
life in heaven is a house and will last
forever although earthly life will pass.
  • P. 85
  • Line 1 AB and her husband are very emotionally
    close.
  • Line 5-6 AB compares her love to earthly
things, like gold, and says she prefers their
    love.
  • Lines 9-10 AB says she is unable to repay her
husband for his great love, but she hopes he will
be paid by heaven or God.
  • Lines 11-12 Their love for each other needs to
be a part of their love of God so that they can
    have life after death.
