Introduction

• 18th Year Teaching
• I feel so fortunate to be a Science Teacher it
  is my passion and I hope to share this enthusiasm
  with your child.
• I am a parent as well with 2 children and three
  grandchildren.

• Holt Science Series this year.
• Textbooks which include 4 modules
• Introduction to Science
• Astronomy
• Introduction to Matter
• Cells, Heredity, and Classification
• Water on Earth

Introduction to Science

• Scientific Method will be emphasized through
  various labs.
• Terminology is very important in Science class.
• Safety is No. 1 in this class, as is following
  directions. We will be working this year on
  Respect, Responsibility, and Safety which goes
  with our PBISPositive Behavioral Interventions
  and Supports.
• Students will become familiar with the equipment
  that Scientists use daily.

Astronomy

• We will be studying space, types of telescopes
  and mapping the stars.
• The Stars, Galaxies, and the Universe will be
  explored.
• Formation of the Solar System will be reinforced.
• Students will be working on a PBL (Problem-based
  Learning) where they will figure out how we can
  work and live on Mars.
• Exploring the unknown.

Introduction to Matter

• The properties of matter, mass, weight, and
  physical/chemical changes will be emphasized.
• States of Matter along with Boyles and Charles
  law will be studied.
• Elements, Compounds, and Mixtures

Cells, Heredity and Classification

• Cells, tissues and organs
• Heredity will be studied
• Genetics that will include genes, alleles,
  genotypes, and phenotypes will be emphasized
  through lab work and note-taking.
• Evolution of Living Things
• History of Life on Earth
• Classification of Living Things

Water on Earth

• This will cover the flow of fresh water.
• We will be studying oceans and ocean life in
  detail.
• The movement of Ocean Water will also be included.
