Matthew 251-13
  • Then the Kingdom of Heaven will be like ten
bridesmaids who took their lamps and went to meet
the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and
five were wise. 3 The five who were foolish
didnt take enough olive oil for their lamps,
4 but the other five were wise enough to take
    along extra oil.
  • 5 When the bridegroom was delayed, they all
    became drowsy and fell asleep.

5
Matthew 251-13
  • 6 At midnight they were roused by the shout,
Look, the bridegroom is coming! Come out and
    meet him!
  • 7 All the bridesmaids got up and prepared their
lamps. 8 Then the five foolish ones asked the
others, Please give us some of your oil because
    our lamps are going out.
  • 9 But the others replied, We dont have enough
for all of us. Go to a shop and buy some for
    yourselves.

6
Matthew 251-13
  • 10 But while they were gone to buy oil, the
bridegroom came. Then those who were ready went
in with him to the marriage feast, and the door
    was locked.
  • 11 Later, when the other five bridesmaids
returned, they stood outside, calling, Lord!
Lord! Open the door for us!
  • 12 But he called back, Believe me, I dont know
    you!
  • 13 So you, too, must keep watch! For you do not
know the day or hour of my return.

BE READY!!
16
Matthew 251-13
  • Being ready
  • Do I believe Jesus will return?
  • Do I understand the unexpected timing of Jesus
    return?
  • Am I dismayed by delay?
  • Am I known by Jesus?

17
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Do I believe Jesus will return?
  • They will see the Son of Man coming on the
clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31
And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet
call, and they will gather his elect from the
four winds, from one end of the heavens to the
    other.
  • Matthew 2430,31

18
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Do I believe Jesus will return?
  • It teaches us to say No to ungodliness and
worldly passions, and to live self-controlled,
upright and godly lives in this present age,
while we wait for the blessed hopethe glorious
appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus
    Christ.
  • Titus 212-13

19
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Do I understand the unexpected timing of Jesus
    return?
  • Matthew 2436-44
  • "No one knows about that day or hour, not even
the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the
    Father.

20
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Do I understand the unexpected timing of Jesus
    return?
  • As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at
the coming of the Son of Man.
  • For in the days before the flood, people were
eating and drinking, marrying and giving in
marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark and
they knew nothing about what would happen until
the flood came and took them all away.
  • That is how it will be at the coming of the Son
    of Man

21
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Do I understand the unexpected timing of Jesus
    return?
  • "Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on
what day your Lord will come
  • You also must be ready, because the Son of Man
will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

22
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Am I dismayed by the delay?
  • I tell you the truth, some who are standing here
will not taste death until they see the Son of
    Man coming in his kingdom.
  • Matthew 1628

23
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Am I dismayed by the delay?
  • First of all, you must understand that in the
last days scoffers will come, scoffing and
    following their own evil desires.
  • They will say, Where is this coming he
promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything
goes on as it has since the beginning of
    creation.
  • 2 Peter 33-4

24
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Am I dismayed by the delay?
  • Reasons for delay
  • Gods mercy toward foolish bridesmaids
  • The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as
some understand slowness. He is patient with you,
not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to
    come to repentance.
  • 2 Peter 39

25
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Am I dismayed by the delay?
  • Reasons for delay
  • Faith grows stronger through perseverance
  • Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lords
coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to
yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for
the autumn and spring rains. You too, be patient
and stand firm, because the Lords coming is
    near.
  • James 57-8

26
Matthew 251-13 Being ready
  • Am I known by Jesus?
  • Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If
anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will
come in and eat with him,
  • and he with me.
  • Revelation 320
