Title: Aggregate Reporting of Pandemic Influenza Vaccine Doses Administered Update for Option 2 and 3 Users
1Aggregate Reporting of Pandemic Influenza Vaccine
Doses Administered Update for Option 2 and 3
Users
Webinar Presentation to Public Health Project
Areas October 17, 2007
- Joint Presentation by
- Immunization Services Division
- National Center for Immunization and Respiratory
Diseases - and
- Division of Emergency Preparedness and Response
- National Center for Public Health Informatics
2Agenda
- Background on Aggregate Reporting
- Refresher and Update on Pilot Test
- Checklist Items
- Demonstration of CRA
- Next Steps
- Available Resources
3Background
- The National Strategy for Pandemic Influenza
Implementation Plan calls for monitoring of the
appropriate use of a scarce pandemic influenza
vaccine - To accomplish this, states/ project areas will
track vaccine doses administered, collect and
aggregate minimum data elements and transmit
weekly to CDC - CDCs CRA system was modified to provide three
ways for states and partners to report vaccine
doses administered
4Background Options for Aggregate Reporting to
CDC
- Option 1 For states and project areas
collecting data via an existing immunization
information system (IIS) or other application,
technical specifications were developed for three
different data exchange formats flat file
(pipe-delimited), XML file, HL 7 - Option 2 For states and project areas
collecting data manually, an aggregate reporting
screen was added to CDCs CRA application to
allow direct data entry via a web browser - Option 3 For states and project areas using
CDCs CRA application to collect patient level
information, selected data elements will be
automatically aggregated
5Pandemic Influenza Doses Administered Pilot
Reporting Event (PIDAPRE)
- CDC and the project areas will test options
during the influenza season - Evaluate project area capabilities to aggregate
and send a subset of data - Evaluate CDC technical system capabilities to
accept and report aggregate vaccine doses
administered
6Why is the Pilot Test Necessary ?
- Operational Perspective
- To assess the ability to collect and report
vaccine doses administered data and to provide
perspective on federal, project area, and clinic
needs in order to scale-up for a pandemic
situation - Technical Perspective
- To assess the technical ability of systems to
receive, aggregate, and return data, to identify
and address system gaps and to test tooling
options and security aspects for federal and
state partners
7Data Expected from the Project Area
- Will include (required)
- Age
- 6 23 months
- 2 18 years
- 19 49 years
- 50 64 years
- 65 years
- Project Area ID
- Date of Clinic(s)
8Update on PIDAPRE
- CDC and the project areas will test options
during the influenza season - Pilot test November 1st December 31st
- We have received option choices from all 62
project areas (100)
9Project Area Option Choices
32
22

100 of Project Areas have submitted their
reporting option choices, and over 50 of Project
Areas have submitted testing dates.

11Check list for Option 2
4 Confirm the clinic(s) (e.g. Local Health Dept., etc) in the Project Area that will participate in the pilot test. Minimum of 1 site must be selected Will mass vaccinations be administered?
5 Confirm the date(s) for which each clinic will gather data. Minimum of 2 dates must be selected between 11/1/07-12/31/07 Send the selections to Charles E Williams cewilliams_at_cdc.gov
6 Confirm that all users have a digital certificate and can access the CRA Application from their workstation.
7 For each clinic selected, identify the mechanism by which date will be aggregated. Data entry forms, spreadsheet, etc
Full checklist available at www.cdc.gov/phin/cra
12 Check list for Option 3
4 Confirm the clinic(s) (e.g. Local Health Dept., etc) in the Project Area that will participate in the pilot test. Minimum of 1 site must be selected Will mass vaccinations be administered?
5 Confirm the date(s) for which each clinic will gather data. Minimum of 2 dates must be selected between 11/1/07-12/31/07 Send the selections to Charles E Williams cewilliams_at_cdc.gov
6 Identify who (i.e. which user) will be entering data into the CRA Application and the clinic they will be assigned to. Example Jane Smith, Metro Area Health Dept.
7 Confirm that all users have digital certificate and can access the CRA application from their workstation
13Option 2 and 3 Progress To Date
- Clinic Dates for Option 2
- 16 out of 32 Confirmed or have been received
- Clinic Dates for Option 3
- 4 out of 8 Confirmed or have been received
14Frequently Asked Questions
- Can a project area choose one reporting option
initially and then switch to another reporting
option in the future? - Can a blanket digital certificate be issued to a
project area? - Can participation in PIDAPRE be reported in
PERFORMS? - Can we enter data before November 1st?
