Title: The Temptation, Preaching at Nazareth, Miracles and More Miracles.

1
The Temptation, Preaching at Nazareth, Miracles
and More Miracles.

2
Tug O' War Game
  • Point to the fire and say, "If this fire were
real and you got too close, you'd get burned.
It's the same thing with sin. If you get too
close, you get burned. God doesn't tell us to
stay away from sin to ruin our fun he knows that
sin hurts us and leads to our destruction. Satan
is out to destroy us. God warns us to stay away
from sin because he loves us and wants us to
    avoid its negative consequences.
  • We will play a game of Tug O' War over the "fire
pit" to remind us of our struggle with sin and
that if we get too close we will get burned.
Rather than a fire we will be using a sprinkler.
If you get wet, you get "burned".
  • We fight not against flesh and blood, but against
the rulers, against the authorities, against the
powers of this dark world and against the
spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
    Ephesians 612

  • Jesus made Capernaum his home during the years of
his ministry "Leaving Nazareth he went and lived
    in Capernaum" (Matt 413).
  • Peter, Andrew, James and John were fishermen
living in the village.  Matthew the tax collector
    also dwelt here.
  • Capernaum is one of the three cities cursed by
Jesus for its lack of faith.

Lets visit Capernaum!
  • The Synagogue
  • The dating of this synagogue is debated, but it
is clearly later than the first century.
Excavations have revealed a synagogue from the
time of Jesus with walls made of worked stone and
    4 feet thick.
  • These earlier walls were preserved up to 3 feet
high and the entire western wall still exists and
was used as the foundation for the later
    synagogue.

A-Mazing-Friends! (lk5maze.xls)
  • Within 40 seconds, you must exit from the
Maze before your viper bitten friend died from
    the poison.
  • The first player selects any square. If they
land on the Protected area, they are frozen (out)
and next person tries. When a player selects the
right square, they may continue. S/he proceeds
until they guess wrong. All the other players may
help each other remember the solution to the
problem as they proceed. Play continues until
everyone reaches the end and exits off the maze.
  • By Deb High http//www.christiancrafters.co
    m/amazingfriends.html
  • Following is a story of four best friends
who went all the way to do something for their
friend. They show love, care (time energy
spent), persistency, willing to lose face and
faith). Jesus saw THEIR faith prior to healing
    the man.

17
Object Lesson
  • The maze represents the trials and problems
of life, and presents a problem for the group to
solve together. Likewise, friends can help one
another to solve the problems they encounter in
their lives. The Bible has much to say about true
friendship. Proverbs 1824 says, "A man of many
companions may come to ruin, but there is a
friend who sticks closer than a brother." A
person can have many acquaintances, but few
people have many close friends. True friendship
takes time and effort. A true friend doesn't give
up on you when the bad times come. A true friend
helps you through life's problems. Ultimately,
there is only one person that will never give up
on you, and that is Jesus. He loves you
unconditionally. In fact, the Bible tells us that
he loved us while we were still in our sin!
(Romans 58). The Bible also tells us in John
1513, "Greater love has no one than this, that
he lay down his life for his friends." This is
exactly what Jesus has done for you and me! .

Story of Five Best Friends v.17-26
  • If only we can bring him and lay him before
    Jesus

19
Story of Five Best Friends v.17-26
  • Jesus Man, your sins are forgiven, my
friend. Our Lord definitely and deliberately
claims Divinity and bases His claim on the
    miracle.

20
Healing of the Paralytic (517-26)
  • Easier to say Thy sins are forgiven thee. No
    outward visible test.
  • Then He went on to justify this declaration by
the miracle of healing Rise up and walk.
  • Along with the reasoning of the Pharisees, He
must be divine for God is the only one Who can
    forgive sins!
  • The charge against Jesus was blasphemy. 1. He
make Himself equal with God 2. He claims He is
The Son of God. (pg 22o)
