Purpose of Practicums

• To provide opportunities for the development and
  practice of
• Spanish Language Skills
• Access to Latino/Hispanic culture
• Application of language and cultural
  competency skills
• Increased interaction with hispanic/Latino
  clients
• Gain knowledge of community resources

Crucial Components of Community Practicums

• Placement in a community agency/center whose
  primary clients are Hispanic/Latino
• A bilingual/bicultural mentor
• Weekly support/supervisions groups
• Hours in practicums 12 to 16 hours weekly.

Current Plan

• Practicum Supervisors for Pilot Regions are Sue
  Cambell for Jefferson, Sandra Schiele and Kinitha
  Pena for Kypda rural.
• Identify community partners/agencies that are
  willing to serve as practicum cites and mentors
• Schedule meeting in pilot region to
  discuss/design practicum specifics.
