Minimum Housing Requirements
Minimum Temperature 65oF

Overcrowding
  • Bedrooms must have
  • 70 square feet for the first occupant
  • 50 square feet for each additional occupant

Ceiling Height
  • At least half the room must have a ceiling height
    of at least 7 feet
  • Any part of a room with a ceiling height of less
    then 5 feet is not considered in sizing for
    occupancy rate

Light and Ventilation
  • Every habitable room must have at least 1 window
    or skylight that can be opened for ventilation
  • Bathrooms and kitchens are exempt if they have a
    mechanical form of ventilation

Cellars
  • A cellar is defined as any portion of a building
    located partly or wholly underground having half
    or more of its clear height (floor to ceiling)
    below the average grade of the adjoining ground
  • IT IS ILLEGAL TO LIVE IN CELLARS IN STAMFORD
