Revenues and expenses
  • We have low fix expenses
  • We have hired about 11 PhD full time researchers
    and 10 for adiministrative purposes
  • We DONT pay the salary of professors that do
    research at INESC-ID
  • We establish a third part agreement with
    Universities in an annual basis
  • It is accepted by most of the EU programs as
    INESC-ID man power
  • We pay back a fee to the University for each
professor (50 of the time 5000 per year)
  • We run the institute with overheads of16.6

17
Revenues
4.1 Million Euros annual budget (excluding
professor salaries)

Conclusions
  • It is not the most ortodox way of doing it, but
  • with constrains and rules of organization of
public institutes and universities in Portugal
it is quite hard to do research and transfer
    knowledge
  • It was difficult but we found a way to connect
university with companies maintaing a high
    standard for researching
  • it is also not easy in small countries like
    Portugal
  • We have achieved a level that it is hard to
sustain the actual growing of activity without
    having professional management
