What is data?

• Distinct pieces of information stored on a
  medium.
• Can be either analog or digital.
• Requires an interface device to read and/or write
  to the medium.

What is wrong with old?

• Older media can not be accessed easily and
  readily by todays technology.
• Some older data mediums can deteriorate over
  time.
• Devices designed to read from older mediums break
  down over time and become difficult to repair as
  replacement parts become scarce.
• Support for old devices and media is not given or
  available from the manufacturer.

  infections (as old as they may be)
