Title: Systems Theory is a Sociological theory which attempts to explain how groups of people interact as a system.

1
Systems Theory
Systems Theory is a Sociological theory
which attempts to explain how groups of people
interact as a system.
2
Systems Theory focuses on
Family Processes
How they interact with other family members
Problems that may come along
3
Basic Concepts or Principles
A basic principle of systems theory is feedback,
a process by which the system informs its members
how to interact to maintain the stability of the
system.
4
Identify common or bolded terms
Meaningful Habits- strategies defined as patterns
of interaction that are repeated.
5
The History of a Family
Suggests that individuals cannot be understood in
isolation from one another, but rather as a part
of their family, as the family is an emotional
unit. Families are systems of interconnected and
interdependent individuals, none of whom can be
understood in isolation from the system.
6
History and Orientation - Hegel developed in the
19th century a theory to explain historical
development as a dynamic process. Marx and Darwin
used this theory in their work.
7
Child Abuse
If child abuse were to occur in the family,
Family Systems adapt causing a change in
behaviours. When one person behaves one way, that
causes another persons behavior to evolve. This
produces new strategies. If one parent strongly
does not believe in abusing their child, and the
other parent has a neutral opinion on the matter,
it is likely that child abuse will not occur in
the home. This is the same in the reverse.
Ultimately, members of the family influence each
others behavior.
8
Human Sexuality
Systems Theory believes in the feedback
principle. The family informs its members how to
interact to maintain the stability of the system.
However a family believes to parent depends on
how they would feel about a humans sexuality. If
they believe in one form of human sexuality over
another, they would preach their beliefs and
believe that to be the way to maintain stability.
9
The Role of Women in the Family
Systems Theory believe that after women have a
child, they are to return back to work. This is
done to maintain the stability of the home and to
work together as "a system."
10
Adolescent Behaviour
Part of Systems Theory, Family Systems members
work together to strategize way to interact with
the "external society." A family takes
responsibility for their child's behaviour as an
individuals behaviour is inseparable from the
group. A family teaches their young how to behave
and therefore accomplish their need for stability.

Legalizing Marijuana
In regards to legalizing marijuana, Family
Systems make strategies for achieving the goals
and functions of individuals. If the family has
the belief that marijuana should be legalized,
they will attempt to make that happen together.
In addition , this goes back to how ones opinion
influences everyone else's if they have a neutral
stance on the situation.
