• Advantages
• Can pump up to 60m height.
• Uses
• To take out muddy water from excavation trenches
• To lift water from bore wells
• Used in mining and for pumping oil.

• The suction side is completely filled with water
  and pump is started.
• Water from the delivery pipe is allowed to flow
  through the nozzle.
• Due to the high velocity of water, a negative
  pressure is created and water is sucked form the
  well.
• Venturi tube is provided for changing the
  velocity head of water to pressure head

• Where Qs Discharge through the suction pipe
• Qn Discharge through the nozzle.
• Hs is the suction head
• Hd is the delivery head
• Hd is the pressure head on the delivery side
• Efficiency is of the order of 25

Efficiency of the jet pump is very low WHY?

• Because when the stream with different velocities
  mix some pressure rise takes place in the mixing
  zone there by reducing the suction pressure..?
