Downplaying Sin

• People often deny, conceal, and ignore sin
• Others downplay or whitewash sin in order to
  justify living in their own sin they rename and
  redefine sin
• This practice is not new (Isa. 520 Prov. 1715
  2424 Jer. 614 2314 Ezek. 1322 Mk. 78-13)
• What ever happened to sin?

How to Justify Sin

• Popularize it an increasing number of people do
  it
• Legalize it politicians are encouraged to vote
  in favor of it
• Normalize it more people can now do it legally,
  so it becomes commonplace
• Euphemize it people speak in such a way as to
  downplay it it is no long a vice, but a virtue

• A euphemism is a word or phrase that is
  considered less offensive
• Many are not guilty of sin they are just sick
  with a disease or illness they are a
  victim of society

• Lying is just telling a story, a fib, a
  little white lie, misspoke
• Homosexuality is just an alternative lifestyle,
  different sexual orientation
• Abortion is just pro choice, terminating a
  pregnancy, selective reduction
• Fraud (theft, bribery, deceit) is just getting
  one up on the competition

• Profanity is just having a potty mouth,
  freedom of speech
• Covetous is just getting ahead in life
• Gossiping and busybody is just staying informed
• Disobedient to authority is just free spirited

  around, sexually active, making love,
  significant other, living together
• Uncleanness man of the world, experienced
• Lasciviousness sexy, hot, stylish,
  freedom of expression, artistic expression

• Sorcery / witchcraft new age,
  experimenting, channeling
• Enmity / hatred hard feelings,
  discrimination
• Strife not seeing eye-to-eye

  wealth, I want a piece of the action

• Murders he got what was coming to him
• Drunkenness high, feeling good,
  unwinding, had a little too much, trouble
  with his drink
• Revellings having a good time, spring
  break, party, living the high life, playboy

• What are we to do when sin is not in?
• A woe is pronounced against anyone who would
  call evil good (Isa. 520) parents, politicians,
  preachers
• Call sin what it is label it as the Bible labels
  it abhor what is evil (Rom. 129)!
