Title: Happy Belated
1Happy Belated Birthday Aimee!
2Happy Early Birthday Abigail!
3Energy
4What is energy?
Learning Target I will be able to define what
energy is.
5It makes changes
and does work for us.
6Energy is measured
in joules.
J
Learning target I can state the unit to measure
energy.
7After James
Prescott Joule.
8What is work?
Learning target I can give the correct
definition of work.
9Work is..
When a force causes an
object to move in the
direction
of the force.

12Work is measured
in Joules
13So for example....
What work would a horse do
if it used 1000N over 100m?
14100,000 J Or 100kj
Learning Target I can solve work

15Joke..
Did you hear about
the criminal who never
had to do any work????
16He was a joule thief.
17Watt is power?
Learning target I can correctly define the term
power.
18Power is the rate
at which work
is done.
19Power is measured
in Watt?
Learning target I can state the unit used to
measure power.

22Machines
Learning target I will be able to explain how
machines make work
easier.
23A machine is a device
that makes work easier.
24Machines change the size
Or
the direction of the force.
25Work is not made less.

32Some energy gets wasted
Because of friction.

47Inclined planes
Also known as ramps!
48You have to use
less input force.
The MA of inclined planes
The more gradual
the ramp the more

51Wheels and axles
When you turn something

52Wheel
Small input force.
Axle
Gives a bigger force.
Because axle travels less

simple machine.
56Machine notes.
Learning target I can explain how machines
make work easier.
57Where does it all come from?
Learning target I will be able to give examples
of common forms of energy.
58All energy in our solar system starts with
our sun
59Is there only 1 type of energy?
60No!!!!!!!!!!!!!
61Sound LightMotion Heat
GravitationalThermal Nuclear
Electrical Chemical Stored mechanicalRadiant
62They all fall into two categories
63Kinetic is movement energy
64Potential is stored energy
65Potential can be changed into kinetic and kinetic
to potential.
Learning target I can give examples of common
forms of energy.
66Law of conservation of energy
- Energy cannot be created or destroyed only
changed from one form to the other.
Learning target I will be able to describe
energy transfers and
transformations.
67Energy transfer is the transfer of energy from
one thing to another.
Kinetic to kinetic
68Energy transformation/change - is when energy is
changed into another form.
Gravitational potential to Kinetic and sound
and heat.
69Learning target I will be able to describe
energy transfers and
transformations.

75Energy Resource Diagrams
76For this assignment you will show how an energy
resource starts/started with the sun
..and ends with the production of electricity.
77You will need to make a neat, colored drawing
with descriptions.
78You should include all of the important s-t-e-p-s
along the way.
79The following example cannot be used.
80Fossil Fuels
81Millions of years ago plants and trees used
energy from the sun to grow.
82The plants and/or animals were buried by
sediments. Through the action of heat and
pressure over millions of
centuries, they were chemically
changed. Coal, oil, and natural gas
are the results.
83At the power plant the coal is burned to heat
water into steam. This steam is used
to turn a turbine.
84As the turbine turns the generator, electricity
is produced.
85Electricity is then sent to your home for your
use!
86You may choose from the following list of
resources
- Wind
- Solar Tidal
- Wave Biomass
- Hydroelectric-water
Learning target I will be able to LINK all
sources of energy
back to the sun.
87Nuclear Energy
Learning target I will be able to simply
describe nuclear fission and nuclear fusion.
I will be able to
evaluate both the positive and negative impact
of nuclear energy.
To get started go to my webpage and there are
some links that may help. YOU ARE WELCOME ?
88Nuclear Fusion
In nuclear physics, nuclear fusion is
anuclear reaction in which two or more atomic
nuclei collide at a very high speed and join to
form a new type of atomic nucleus. During this
process, matter is not conserved because some of
the matter of the fusing nuclei is converted to
photons (energy).
