1
Influenza Prevention
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue (or
inside of your elbow) when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water,
especially after you cough or sneeze.
Alcohol-based hand cleaners also are effective.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs
    spread that way.
  • Dont share personal items.
  • Practice other good health habits. Get plenty of
sleep, be physically active, manage your stress,
drink plenty of fluids, and eat nutritious food.
  • Sign up for UBs Emergency Alert System to
receive information on University closures or
    class cancellations.

If you have flu-like symptoms(fever, cough
and/or sore throat)
  • Self isolate until at least 24 hours after you
are free of fever, or signs of fever, without the
use of fever-reducing medicines. Visit Student
    Health Services website (wellness.buffalo.edu)
    for self-care advice.
  • Students in a high risk group should contact
Student Health Services at 829-3316 to schedule
an appointment. You should make it clear when
calling that you are in a high risk group for
    influenza complications. High risk groups
include pregnant women and those with
    respiratory disease (asthma, COPD), heart
disease, diabetes, renal disease, morbid obesity
or who have compromised immune systems.
  • Student who develop difficulty breathing or
shortness of breath , pain or pressure in the
chest or abdomen , sudden dizziness , confusion ,
    severe or persistent vomiting , and/or flu-like
symptoms improve but then return with fever and
