Mass Movement

• Gravity causes mass movement which is any one of
  several processes that move sediment downhill.

Creep

• the very slow downhill movement of rock and soil.
• When soil creeps downhill, small trees tend to be
  bent over, but also have a biological drive to
  grow vertically (called geotropism). Thus, trees
  on creeping slopes tend to curve at the base.

Landslides

• The most destructive kind of mass movements is a
  landslide, which occurs when rock and soil slide
  quickly down a steep slope.

Mudflows

• A mudflow is the rapid downhill movement of a
  mixture of water rock and soil. They often occur
  after heavy rains in a dry area.

Slump

• In this mass movement a mass of rock and soil
  suddenly slips down a slope. Unlike a landslide
  the material in a slump moves down the hill in
  one large mass.
