I. The periodic table has distinct regions

• Three main regions
• Metals
• Nonmetals
• Metalloids
• Elements position indicates how reactive it is.
• 1. reactive- how likely an element is to undergo
  a chemical change

• Metals- one of the large classifications of
  elements generally located on the left side of
  the periodic table
• Can be shaped easily
• Solid at room temperature (except Hg)

III. Nonmetals and metalloids have a wide range
of properties.

1. Nonmetals- elements to the right side of the
   periodic table properties are opposite of those
   of metals.
2. Properties tend to vary more from element to
   element.
3. Many are gas at room temperature, with one
   (Bromine) a liquid.
