WHAT DOES THE EMPLOYER WANT?
  • Each employer has a need a job function to be
    met
  • Assess your qualifications to match their
    requirements
  • They are looking for the most qualified and
    suitable candidate
  • Qualifications may not be enough, other skills
    are important
  • Attitude, Passion, Preparation, Professionalism,
    Appearance, Listening Skills, Knowledge of the
    Company, etc.
  • They want to know more about whats on your resume

Phone Interview
  • Will be conducted in order to narrow down the
    pool of candidates.
  • Will be conducted by an H.R. or an administrative
    clerk who will have limited or no knowledge about
    the job.
  • You will be asked pre printed questions which
    fill focus on your experience and education.
  • Phone interview is typically 5-10 min.
  • If you dont impress the interviewer you will not
    be invited to a live interview.
  • You need to impress upon the interviewer that you
    are confidant and know what you are talking about
  • Never answer with just a yes or no answer

    you discussed, and when it took place
  • Record responses theirs and yours
  • Print or write down driving directions. If
    necessary, drive to the site ahead of time.
  • Focus on the job description and your
    qualifications
  • Know how your skills and abilities match the job
    requirements
  • Have your stories polished.
  • Be ready to communicate

  • Arrive early
  • Remember that the interview starts when someone
    from that company sees you. This includes the
    security guard, and the secretary. The manger may
    ask these folks what they thought of you.
  • Leave your cell phone in the car
  • Do not bring your children with you

The Interview
  • Try not to look nervous.
  • Answer each question with full and complete
    sentences.
  • Use each question as a way to highlight your
    knowledge and experience.
  • Make it a 2 way conversation. Have some questions
    for the interviewer.
  • Make sure to let the interviewer finish asking
    the question before answering.
  • Take a brief moment to think about the question
    before answering
  • You may also want to have a plan ready for how
    you might solve some of their challenges. This
    may impress them with your problem solving skills.

After the interview
  • Follow up with the interviewer a week after the
    interview with an email or a phone call.
  • It is now popular for companies to hold 2nd or
    3rd interviews as well.
  • If you do not get the job thank them for their
    time. You will be the first person they call if
    that person does not work out
