Capitalization and Punctuation of Titles
  • Shorter Works- Poems, chapters, short stories,
    articles


Example The Dog and the Boy
  • The first word is always capitalized
  • All nouns, verbs, and adjectives are capitalized
  • The last word is always capitalized
  • Use quotation marks around the title.
  • If you are writing the title in a sentence, place
    a comma before the quotation marks.
  • If the title of the story is the END of your
    sentence, place the period INSIDE of the
    quotation marks.

The Dog and the Boy
I read the poem, The Dog and the Boy in class
yesterday.
My favorite poem is The Dog and the Boy.
