CareersinEngineering
  • Designing the Future
  • University of Illinois
  • at Chicago

2
What Do Engineers Do?
  • Look around you. Most everything you
see was designed, created or developed by an
    engineer.
  • In practice, engineers calculate performance of
systems and components they design and create
    the products of our future.
  • In research, engineers develop and create the
tools used for predictions and designs.

Scientist, Engineer, Technician
  • SCIENTIST
  • A theoretician or experimenter. A formulator of
basic ideas and tools for predicting nature.
  • ENGINEER
  • An innovator/creator of new products, systems,
procedures or processes. Usually closer to
applications than scientists. Designer of the
world around us and developer of the
computational tools with which to do it.
  • TECHNICIAN/TECHNOLOGIST
  • An implementor of the systems or solutions
    designed by engineers.
