Title: Muscular System

1
Muscular System
  • Muscle Injuries and Diseases

2
Muscle Injuries
  • 1. Strain- is the tearing or stretching of
muscle fibers when they are suddenly pulled apart
    too far.

3
Treatment for Strain
  • 1. Apply an ice pack to the affected area.
  • 2. Take Analgesics.

4
2. Cramp
  • It is an uncontrolled and prolonged contraction
of a muscle accompanied by pain.

5
  • It is caused by build up of lactic acid in the
muscle during of immediately after a strenuous
    exercise.
  • Lactic Acid-Milk Acid

6
  • It is also caused by lack of oxygen in the muscle
due to poor blood circulation when in awkward
    sitting position.

7
Treatment for Cramps
  • Massage the affected area.

8
3. Bruise
  • Discoloration of the muscle. Black and blue spot
caused by the blood from the injured muscle
    (pasa).

9
Treatment for Bruises
  • Cold compress to prevent swelling and ease the
    pain.

10
Diseases and Disorders of muscles and Tendons
  • 1. Tendinitis is an inflammation or swelling of
the tendons specially in the knees, heels,
    shoulders, and elbow.

11
Treatment for Tendinitis
  • Doctors use anti-inflammatory drugs to cure
    tendinitis.

12
2. Trigger Finger
  • The sheath around the tendon become swollen. The
    finger becomes swollen.

13
  • It is called trigger finger because when the
finger unlocks, it pops back suddenly, as if
releasing a trigger on a gun.

14
Treatment for Trigger Finger
  • 1. Corticosteroid injection.

15
3. Infection
  • A. Gangrene is the death of muscle tissues due to
bacterial infection or the absence of blood
    supply.

17
Treatment for Gangrene
  • The affected part is cut off.

18
4. Tumors
  • It is an abnormal mass of tissue. It occurs
mostly to women. It ussually develop in the
    uterus.

19
  • However, tumors (including sarcomas or
malignant tumors) can occur almost anywhere.

20
Treatment for tumor
  • Operation

21
5. Myasthenia Gravis
  • Or Serious Muscle Weakness
  • The muscle become weak and tire easily.

22
Treatment of Myasthenia Gravis
  • Continuous medication

23
6. Muscular Dystrophy
  • An inherited muscular disorder in which the
    muscles slowly become weak.

24
  • Muscular dystrophies are characterized by
progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in
muscle proteins, and the death of muscle cells
    and tissue

25
Treatment for Muscular Dystrophy
  • There is no known cure for muscular dystrophy.
However, they should not be allowed to get
overweight because this will make their condition
    worse. They should be active.
