  • Much advocacy for power based discipline.

  • Assumption is passive submission to adult
    domination- in reality coping mechanisms.

    self esteem.

  • All I am saying is simply this, that all life is
    interrelated, that somehow were caught in an
    inescapable network of mutuality tied in a single
    garment of destiny. What affects one directly
    affects all indirectly.

What can we do?
  • Present systems do not appear to be working.
    Despite very strong feelings.
  • What is suitable sentencing.
  • International research shows selective
    interventions can help.
  • Some groups have lower reoffending rates than
    first thought. Even lower if involved in therapy
  • Use of social media

  • Predominately extra familial.

  • High impulsivity, denial, cognitive distortions.
  • Low victim empathy emotional loneliness.
  • Sexually deviant arousal, fantasy preoccupation.

Sympathy for the devil?
  • Unpalatable to many
  • Diverts resources from child protection services
  • But we must reduce future offending
  • Primitive rage is understandable and has a
    comforting absolutism but drives the problem
    underground and is not faced
