Pantheon

• Temple built for the 12 planetary gods
• Built by the Emperor Hadrian (118-126 AD)
• Opens up onto a rotunda and lighted by an Oculus
  in the centre of the dome
• Still used today as a Church.

• Poor peasants were still Romans and could vote so
  the Emperor needed them on his side. To be
  popular he provided food and entertainment.

• public baths supplied by the aqueducts.

• featured libraries, gyms, gardens, and shops
• were decorated with mosaics.

• could hold 1,600 bathers

• Amphitheatre
• holds 50 000 people
• completed in 80 AD
• gladiators and animal fights as well as
  executions took place here.
• 50 Ms high facade.

  stadiums and in waterproofed amphitheatres.
