• Umbra the darkest part of a shadow
• Penumbra the part of a shadow surrounding the

• When the moons shadow hits Earth or the Earths
  shadow hit the moon

Half the Earth can view eclipse at the same time
Only the people in the umbra can view the eclipse

What causes tides?

• Tides are caused by gravity between the Earth,
  moon, and sun

What causes tides?

• The moons gravity pulls on Earths surface
  closest to the moon causing water to create a
  bulge
• Water is stolen from the sides to create the
  bulge
• The side of Earth furthest from the moon has the
  least effect of moons gravity and has a bulge
  that is the left behind water

• The suns gravity can add to the moons pull or
  even it out depending on the positions of the
  sun, moon and Earth
