MISSION
  • To develop midshipmen morally, mentally, and
    physically and to imbue them with the highest
    ideals of duty, honor, and loyalty in order to
    commission college graduates as naval officers
    who possess a basic professional background, are
    motivated towards careers in the naval service,
    and have potential for future development in mind
    and character so as to assume the highest
    responsibilities of command, citizenship, and
    government.

Fraternization
  • Definition
  • Personal relationships between officers and
    enlisted members which are unduly familiar and do
    not respect differences in rank and grade are
    inappropriate.
  • Also
  • Similar relationships where a senior-subordinate
    relationship exist are also inappropriate.
  • Are prejudicial to good order and discipline or
    Bring discredit to the Naval Service

Hazing
  • Naval Customs, Ceremonies and traditional events
    serve to enhance morale, espri de corps and
    pride.
  • Examples
  • Shellback, Bluenose, Order of the Rock, Order of
    the Ditch, Pinning Ceremonies
  • However, personal rites of passage which may be
    construed as hazing shall not be tolerated in the
    Navy.
  • CO or direct representative will be involved with
    the planning / directing of all events
  • Glamorization of alcohol will not be tolerated
  • Sexually suggestive gags, props or activities are
    prohibited
  • Participation is voluntary

Hazing
  • Hazing is any exposure of our people to cruelty,
    indignity, humiliation, hardship or deprivation
    of their rights.
  • The men and women of the Naval Service have
    significant value to the future defense of the
    Nation and must be afforded the dignity and
    respect they have earned and deserve.

Sexual Harassment
  • Definition Sexual harassment is a form of sex
    discrimination that involves unwelcomed sexual
    advances or requests of a sexual nature when
  • Submission to or rejection of such is made a term
    or condition of a persons job, pay or career

  • Such conduct interferes with an individuals
    performance or creates an intimidating hostile or
    offensive environment.

  • For a persons behavior to be considered sexual
    harassment, it must meet three criteria
  • It must be unwelcome
  • It must be sexual in nature
  • It must occur in, or impact on the work
    environment.
