Adsorption is the accretion of atoms or molecules on the surface of a material. This process creates a film of the adsorbate i.e. the molecules or atoms being accumulated on the adsorbent's surface. Adsorbents are operative in almost all systems such as chemical, biological and physical as it can undergo the process called adsorption. These are commonly used in the form of spherical pellets, rods, moldings, or monoliths.

Present study was performed so as to compare adsorptive removal efficiencies of low-cost adsorbent rice husk ash (RHA) and commercial granular activated carbon (GAC) for the removal of bisphenol-A (BPA), an endocrine disrupting chemical, from aqueous solution. Effect of variables such as initial concentration (C0), adsorbent dose (m), temperature (T), pH, and time (t) were studied. Optimized values at C0 = 100 mg/L were found to be: m = 30 g/L, t = 3 h for RHA whereas for GAC, optimum values were: m = 20 g/L and t = 2 h. Pseudo-second-order model best represented the adsorption kinetic data; and Freundlich and Temkin models best fitted the isotherm data. The adsorption of BPA onto GAC and RHA was found to be endothermic in nature. Value of change in entropy and enthalpy for BPA adsorption onto RHA was found to be: 21.38 J/mol K and 0.335 kJ/mol, respectively. Respective values for BPA adsorption onto GAC were found to be: 29.6 J/mol K and 4.03 kJ/mol, respectively

The use of Carbon molecular sieve for gas separation works best due to its highly porous and well defined pore structure, where different sizes of molecules are adsorbed in the passage of molecules across the membrane. Pores that are smaller tend to allow for the passage of smaller molecules, while pores that are larger tend to allow the passage of larger molecules. A special 3 angstrom molecular sieves dehydration process needs to be carried out using latest technology to manufacture the absolute alcohol. In the case of ethanol, water is extracted by making it dehydrated with the help of adsorbent structure of molecular sieve 3A. The potassium-based molecular sieve pore size of 3a is 3A0 or 3 Angstrom, it cannot adsorb all molecules which having the pore size is large then 3A. 3A molecular sieve can be available in beads, pellets and powder form. Activated alumina balls are highly effective water filtration media that has been used for many years to remove impurities from water. It is a porous, granular material that is made from aluminium hydroxide. The desiccant has a large surface area and a high capacity for adsorbing a wide range of contaminants, making it an ideal choice for water treatment applications.
Alsorb-F a true grade of activated alumina has long been considered the best technology for fluoride removal from aqueous solutions. These can be used to treat potable water for household and municipal units as well as a great solution for wastewater streams for removal of fluoride and arsenic. The adsorptive process is simply requiring a flow rate across the media with a minimum of five minutes empty bed contact time. Alsorb-F is an aluminum oxide that is highly porous and exhibits high surface area. The crystal structure of alumina contains cation lattice discontinuities giving rise to localized areas of positive charge; this makes alumina attract various anionic species. Our alumina balls have a high preference for fluoride compared to other anionic species and hence is an attractive adsorbent. It also does not shrink, swell, soften nor disintegrate when immersed in water.

If you're like millions of other people, you value your smile. Your pearly whites may be a touch yellower than you'd want after years of using and abusing harsh foods and beverages, as well as other poor behaviours. Coconut shells, olive pits, gently burned wood, and peat is all used to make activated coconut charcoal powder, which is a fine-grained black powder. When the powder is oxidised at high temperatures, it gets activated. Activated charcoal is a porous and adsorbent material. It has a large surface area as well.
