It has a population of 13,404 and an area of 19.7 km². Massa Lubrense is popularly known as the legendary Land of Sirens (from which it derives the toponym of “Sirenusion”). Meta (or, Meta di Sorrento) is a comune (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Naples in the Italian region Campania, located about 25 km southeast of Naples. Meta borders the municipalities of Piano di Sorrento and Vico Equense.

Amalfi lies at the mouth of a deep ravine, at the foot of Monte Cerreto (1,315 metres), surrounded by dramatic cliffs and coastal scenery. The town of Amalfi was the capital of the maritime republic known as the Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and around 1200. Amalfi is the main town of the coast on which it is located, named Costiera Amalfitana (Amalfi Coast), and is today an important tourist destination together with other towns on the same coast, such as Positano, Ravello and others. Amalfi is included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Vico Equense is part of the greater Bay of Naples metropolitan area and is a tourist destination. Located on a tuff cliff, it is relatively close to the ferry to the island of Capri, the volcano Vesuvius, the Monte Faito and the ancient town of Pompeii. Since 1948, Vico Equense is crossed by the Circumvesuviana railway network. The city has three stations. The main station is called "Vico Equense" and serves the village center. The station "Seiano" serves the fraction of Seiano and the station "Scrajo Terme" that allows access to tourists to the nearby spa and bathing

Salerno hosted the oldest medical school in the world, the Schola Medica Salernitana, the most important source of medical knowledge in Europe in the early Middle Ages.
