  • CPC NIDIS
  • CPCs Role In the NOAA Climate Services Project
  • CPC NCEP Central Operations GIS Plans
  • 34th Annual Climate Diagnostics and Prediction
    Workshop

GrADS
  • GrADS is the core software used to generate the
vast majority of CPCs web products distributed
    to the public.
  • GRADS The Grid Analysis and Display System
  • It is widely used around the world by the
    Climate community.
  • GrADS was developed and is maintained and
supported at the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere
    Studies (COLA)

4
GrADS/GIS
CPC / COLA GIS Proposal
Funded by the NOAA/ Climate Test Bed (CTB)
  • GrADS will be enhanced by adding GIS vector and
    raster formats as output options
  • GrADS scripts used for product generation at CPC
will be modified to produce output in GIS format
in addition to the native grids and graphical
    formats already produced

5
GrADS/GIS
  • Currently we are testing two formats
  • GeoTIFF
  • KML
  • GrADS Commands

KML
GeoTIFF
'set geotiff filename' 'set gxout
geotiff' 'display variable'
'set kml filename' 'set gxout kml' 'display

Coordination with the OSIP GIS Project Team
  • OSIP (Operations and Services Improvement
Process) - is the official NWS project process.
  • CPC is providing updates regarding the CPC GIS
project to the OSIP leader - Kari Sheets
  • We hope this aids coordination across the NWS.

18
34th Climate Diagnostics Prediction Workshop
Monterey, California, on 26-30 October 2009.
  • The workshop will focus in three major themes
  • improving climate predictions / predictability
  • understanding and attribution of climate
    variability and its impacts, and
  • application of climate predictions / projections
in the development and delivery of products
