Knox Co. ATC Students Build Life-Size Playhouse

Knox County ATC carpentry students got the
opportunity to create a very special Playhouse.
As a way to raise money for other projects,
Cleo Goodletts carpentry classes participated in
the construction of a miniature house. The
students (approximately 76) worked extremely hard
on this project, said Mr. Goodlett. We didnt
use house plans so the students could be creative
in what they were doing. The most important
thing learned with this playhouse was about the
structure itself and then the students getting to
see what they had accomplished. The house is
eight feet by eight feet with a porch, vaulted
ceiling, kitchen cabinets and counters, a set of
bunk beds and window shutters. Sophomores
Jessie Blankenship and Jonathan Hensley played a
part in several aspects of the construction. We
did the beds, the cabinets and shingles, and I
helped put on the porch post and rails, said
Blankenship. Hensley also helped with the
ceiling fan installation. I hope some little
kids get the house, he said. The structure
would normally sell for 4000 - 4500, but
because of being a school activity, Mr. Goodlett
sold the structure for 1700. All the proceeds
will go back into funding another project.
Mr. Goodlett said his students worked hard on the
project. He hopes his students can do more local
projects of this type in the future.
