The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT)

• The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT) set in
  motion substantial efforts to increase the use of
  alternatives to petroleum in the transportation
  sector.
• The EPACT goal is to address the Nations concern
  about dependence on imported petroleum and has
  lead to development of alternative fuels for
  transportation purposes.

The Energy Policy Act of 1992 (EPACT)

• Federal Agencies are required by EPACT,
  subsequent laws and implementing Presidential
  Executive Orders to exercise leadership in the
  reduction of petroleum consumption through
  improvements in fleet fuel efficiency,
  acquisition of alternative fuel vehicles and use
  of alternative fuels.

• To educate the federal agencies on EPACT,
  Alternative Fuels and Alternative Fuel Vehicles,
  the Defense Energy Support Center (DESC)
  developed an Alternative Fuel Information Station
  (AFIS).
• The AFIS is located on the DESC website
  http//www.desc.dla.mil under Energy links.

• The AFIS is designed to ensure that our customers
  are trained on the various facets of EPACT and,
  alternative fuels from procurement to
  consumption.
• The AFIS serves as a compendium of information on
  EPACT, the purchase and handling of alternative
  fuels, alternative fuels such as bio-diesel, fuel
  ethanol, CNG and synthetic fuels.
• The AFIS contains interactive tutorials from a
  DESC perspective.
