Association to promote good sportsmanship in the
performing arts through education in competitive
and non-competitive events. In reflecting our

9TRIAD what is this??
- Dance is to be present throughout all of the
performances - Triad, the simultaneous use of dance sequences,
formation changes and equipment all at the same
time, should be attempted throughout the
performances.
10Category Descriptions
- Pom
- Emphasis is on the use of poms as the focal point
of the performance. - Poms must be held and used by at least 1 member
100 of the time. - Pom/Dance
- Dancers must blend the use of pom work and dance
sequencing throughout the routine. - Pom effects should be incorporated with the dance
sequencing to enhance the level of difficulty. - Kick
- Emphasis is on the use of a variety of kicks
(Varsity 50 kicks minimum, JV Jr. High 35
kicks minimum) - A kick is defined as any time the foot is higher
than the waist level regardless of where it
originates. - Ripples are defined as 1 kick.
- Repeated group work will only be counted once
during that phrase. - Pick-ups are defined as continuous kicks.
- Team will be credited once the sufficient number
of kicks has been counted!

- Contemporary/Lyrical
- A clearly defined story with the choreography
emphasizing the emotion/lyrics of the music. - Routines may demonstrate but are not limited to
balance, extensions, isolations, control,
contractions, etc. - Hip/Hop
- Any style of hip hop is permitted.
- Emphasis should be on the interpretation of the
music and its rhythm. - Dance
- Emphasis of the choreography should be on the
rhythm and beats of the music. - A continuous level of dance sequencing should be
present throughout the routine.

- Emphasis is on the use of one or more props as
the focal point of the performance. - Flags may not be used.
- Novelty
- Incorporation of a novel idea which must be
present in costume, music, and movement.
Eliminating one of these elements severely
affects the end result of the performance. - A novel idea is not a reproduction of a movie,
play, musical, etc. - Dancing in a costume is not necessarily a novelty
routine. - Costume should be worn which is fitting to the
theme. - Props may be used.
- A costume that replicates trademark logos, of any
size, is permitted.
