• Free throw is awarded because

Personal Foul

• Types
• Player shall not
• Hold
• Push
• Charge into another player
• Stop the progress of an opponent by extending an
  arm and leg
• Hand check

Technical Foul

• Illegal defenses
• Excessive timeouts
• Delay of game
• Illegal substitutions
• Goal tending or deliberately hangs on the rim
• Unsportsmen-like Conduct

Positions of the Shooting Team

• Shooter stands behind the free throw line
• Teammates
• -Two spots away from endline
• -The remaining two
• 6 ft. from free throw lane lines
• 3 ft. from free throw circle

Positions of the Opposing Team

• Two spaces closest to end-line
• Only one of the third spaces are allowed to be
  occupied
• The rest of the team
• -6 ft. from the free throw lane lines
• -3ft. From the free throw circle

Time Limit

• 10 seconds from time official hands the ball to
  the shooter

Penalties

• When foul shot is occurring
• Either team makes a violation and the free throw
  attempt is good or occurs on the first multiple
  shots, it is ignored
• Violation is caused by opponent and the free
  throw is unsuccessful , shooter is awarded
  another free throw
• Violation is by a teammate of shooter, its a
  violation as soon as the free throw is attempted

• Why the offended player would not shoot the free
  throw?
• Ejected
• Disqualified
• Injured

Breaking the Plain

• All players are allowed to step in the paint when
  ball touches the rim.
• Players are only allowed 3 seconds in the paint
