3Our Mission Statement
- The GFSS Library Resource Centre promotes a
teaching/learning program that is an integral
part of the total school program, providing for
the educational needs of the entire school
community. - Specifically, the LRC facilitates lifelong
learning by teaching students to formulate
questions and engage in a variety of research
techniques to find answers.

5Program and Instruction
- Using a school-developed Skills Continuum, the
teacher-librarian cooperatively plans curriculum
units with teachers in every department. - Supports all resource-based learning initiated by
staff and/or students - Provides direct instruction to classes on
research skills
- Provides a variety of literature for all levels
of students - Demonstrates current technological developments
in information research - Assist individual students with individual
learning - Effectively supervise students

- Developing and articulating objective for
implementation of program, policy, and procedures - Providing effective organization and supervision

- Oversees the Circulation Desk
- Assists students with finding resources and
computer problems - Monitors overdue books and fines
- Catalogues new materials
- Creates new ID cards
- Assists students with research
- Maintains "requests" list
- Oversees photocopier and printer
- Enforces Library Rules
9LIBRARY ETIQUETTE(for students)
- Please, no more than 4 people to a table
- Computers may be used for school work only
- No food or drinks or electronic devices
- Water is fine
- Talk quietly so everyone can get some work done
- Study silently in the carrels
- No board games or playing cards
- Smile and say "hello" when you enter
- Smile and say "goodbye" when you leave
- Be courteous of others at all times
- See us immediately if there is a problem of any
kind
10LIBRARY ETIQUETTE(for teachers)
- Priority is always given to cooperatively planned
teacher and teacher-librarian developed units of
study - Maximum number of three consecutive periods can
be booked at one time - Resource-based learning includes more than
students researching on the Internet - Resource-based learning is complex and requires
teachers to be actively involved in learning - Students require their subject teachers to be
present in the Library Resource Centre when they
are completing their research assignments - The early bird gets the worm.

- Level 4 a current and cooperatively planned
unit of study developed by classroom teachers and
the teacher-librarians - Level 3 a recycled cooperatively planned unit
of study developed by classroom teachers and the
teacher-librarians - Level 2 presents to teacher-librarian a ready
made assignment and requests resources on a cart
at the beginning of class. - Level 1 teacher self serves, Thanks, but I
dont need you. - Students learn more and produce better research
products following planned, integrated
information skills instruction by the teacher and
