  • The Slutzker Center's primary objective is to
    assist you in maintaining compliance to U.S.
    immigration laws.
  • The Slutzker Center provides
  • Interpretations of immigration regulations
  • Advice and counseling
  • Updates of regulation changes through SCISNEWS
    and the
  • Slutzker Center website
  • Daily scheduled appointments and walk-in
    appointments with the Advisor On-Call (Mon-Fri
    830am-5pm)
  • Weekly seminars on immigration topics
  • A comfortable place to visit and relax

    responsibility and Syracuse University is not

Clearance Process
  • You must complete all of the actions listed on
    your clearance form and submit it to the Slutzker
    Center in order for the hold to be released from
    your record so that you can register for classes.
  • Submit photocopies of the listed documents in box
    2 on your clearance form for you and any
    dependents to the Slutzker Center
  • Create a US address record and submit a copy of
    the entry http//myslice.syr.edu
  • Attend International Student Orientation
  • Medical Clearance
  • English Language Assessment Exam
  • Verify Billing Address

Health Insurance
  • F-1 Students and F-2 Dependents
  • You are expected to maintain comprehensive,
    continuous uninterrupted health insurance
    coverage (including coverage that continues over
    the summer) for the duration of your academic
    program
  • Must have medical evacuation and repatriation
    coverage
  • Health insurance should be valid for a full
    academic year (e.g., Aug 2007-Aug 2008) and
    renewed each and every year thereafter
  • J-1 Students and J-2 Dependents
  • Exchange Visitors under the Department of States
    J-1 nonimmigrant visa program, are required to
    maintain health insurance for themselves and any
    J-2 dependents throughout the duration of their
    stay in the U.S.
  • If you already purchased health insurance from
    your home country, fill out the blue Health
    Insurance Analysis Form inside your Welcome
    Packet to make sure it fulfills the necessary
    requirements.
  • To purchase health insurance starting Aug. 1,
    2007, go to www.haylor.com

  • Cell Phones
  • Cell Phone Providers Verizon, T-Mobile, ATT,
    Sprint.
  • If you do not have an SSN, you need to provide
    proof that you are an international student by
    bringing all of your original documents with you.
  • Without an SSN, you will need to make a large
    down payment (300-600) but will receive it back
    after a year with the company.
  • Some cell phone providers offer Easy Pay Plan
    options that do not require down payments- ask
    for the flyer at the front desk.
  • Calling Cards
  • If the slip of paper with 2 links is not in your
    Welcome Packet, ask for one at the Welcome Desk.

    Social Security Number to open a bank account.

  • On-Campus Employment and I-9
  • TAs, GAs and RAs
  • Get instructions sheet at the front desk for I-9.
  • You do not need to attend an employment seminar
    or be registered for classes.
  • Graduate Undergraduate Students
  • Before you can be employed you need to be
    registered for classes.
  • You need to attend an On- Campus Employment
    Seminar (Get seminar schedule at the front
    desk).
  • Receive an on-campus job offer
  • Start I-9 process (get instructions sheet at the
    front desk).

Immigration Reminders
  • If you make any changes or take any actions
    within your immigration status, do not take any
    advice from friends or other departments- come to
    the Slutzker Center first!
