  • In 1931 Ivy Street School opened its doors as an
    elementary school
  • Ivy Hill was an independent borough in 1931.

Lots of Changes
  • In 1935 grades 6, 7, and 8th were added
  • In 1955 grades Pre-K through 5th were removed.
    Ivy Street School became a junior high school.

  • One of the main reasons Ivy St. School became
    Vailsburg High School was because of racism.

  • Vailsburg has transformed many times.

  • Vailsburg Middle School has transformed a lot
    since it opened in 1931--from elementary to
    junior high to high school to middle school. We,
    the students of Vailsburg Middle School, should
    make the best of VMS while we have the chance.
    It may not be a middle school too long.
