Title: Chevrolet Corvette
1Chevrolet Corvette
The history of a Sports car
Written by Mindy Thompson
2The Corvette was introduced in 1953 by General
Motors Inc., making this year its 50th
anniversary. Over the past 50 years, the
Corvette has gone through many changes exteriorly
and interiorly. I will explain the basic
evolution of the five generations of the Corvette
in this presentation. So sit back, fasten your
seatbelts and enjoy the ride.

6C2 the second generation, 1963-1967
When the C2 generation was designed by Bill
Mitchell, it was created to be faster than the C1
generation. Besides tweaking the interior, the
exterior was altered to look more aerodynamic.
My favorite Corvette design called The Stingray
is in this generation of beauties. There are
still many Stingrays around today.

8C3 the third generation 1968-1982
The C3 generation is the largest span of
Corvettes ranging two decades. Over the course
of almost 20 years, the Corvette was altered
cosmetically instead of being re-engineered from
the ground up. GM kept the C2 frame (technical
term chassis) and altered the body of the car
itself (the exterior).
There was also a discrepancy about the engine and
speedometer because during some of the C3
generation, a gas crisis was going on therefore
the car had to be altered to not use as much gas.
The big block V-8 engine was removed and the
speedometer was made to only go up to 85mph.

Exteriorly, the Corvette started out in the late
60s as very narrow in the front yet as time
progresses it because more rounded as it is
presently and the back of the car because more
sleek like a Porsche.
10C4 the fourth generation 1984-1996
There was a year gap because there was a problem
with the Corvette plants. When the Corvette was
finally released in 1984, the C4 generation was
completely remodeled. The frame was redesigned
and the V-8 was put back in it in 1990. The last
